TUFFSTUFF received a telephone call from Mrs. Quick on 05 January 2006 requesting assistance. She advised that their Landrover Defender had rolled and that she had suffered injury and her husband appeared to be more seriously injured. The insured had been admitted to a small clinic in Mikumi, Tanzania.

TUFFSTUFF instructed NETCARE911 to immediately assess the medical condition of our client. Following discussions between NETCARE 911 and the missionary doctor at Mikumi clinic in Tanzania, the following was established:

  • The insured was unable to stand and had lost feeling in his left arm, hand and fingers.
  • There were no facilities at the clinic to accurately determine the extent and nature of the injuries suffered by the insured and his wife.
  • The only medication available at the clinic with which to treat the patients for pain was Brufin.

The insured and his wife were airlifted by NETCARE911 under strict medical supervision by chartered air ambulance from Mikumi to Dar es Salaam. They were admitted to the Aga Khan Hospital where the extent of their injuries could be accurately established. Mrs. Quick had suffered numerous minor injuries and was treated accordingly. Mr. Quick had suffered severe injuries to the cervical spine and was retained in hospital pending his evacuation back to South Africa.

On 09 January 2006, The insured was "vacuum packed" for transportation and they were placed on board an Air Tanzania flight to South Africa as this was the most immediate flight available. At all time, our clients were accompanied by qualified Paramedics.

Mr. Quick was admitted to the Eugene Marais Hospital and at which time it was established that his neck had been broken. The insured is currently still recovering from his injuries.
